ABCL Submission to Treasury on Improving the Efficiency of Climate-related Financial Disclosures

The Australian Beverages Council has made a submission in response to Treasury’s consultation on improving the efficiency of climate-related financial disclosures.

The ABCL supports climate disclosure that is useful and aligned internationally, with assurance proportionate to the maturity of the underlying data. Scope 3 emissions rely heavily on estimates and third-party information, so the ABCL recommends keeping Scope 3 disclosure but deferring mandatory assurance until data and methods are sufficiently mature.

The submission also calls for a government-maintained repository of emissions factors, practical guidance on materiality, better alignment of reporting periods, and a “tell us once” approach to sharing data. Together, these measures would reduce duplicated reporting across manufacturing supply chains while keeping disclosure transparent.
