Drinks industry backs science behind sweeteners
The Australian Beverages Council supports the use of non-sugar sweeteners (NSS) as a way for consumers to manage and reduce their intake of sugar from non-alcoholic drinks.
Non-sugar sweeteners like aspartame are some of the most thoroughly tested food additives and undergo stringent testing by world-class food agencies like Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) before being declared safe for use in products.
Consumers wanting to manage their sugar consumption can safely rely on non-sugar sweeteners to provide more choices of great-tasting drinks with fewer kilojoules.
