A Spotlight on Sweeteners: Exploring Science, Safety and Use

SYMPOSIUM

On 27 June 2023, the Australian Beverages Council in collaboration with International Council of Beverages Association Asia Pacific Regional Group (ICBA-APAC) and Food Industry Asia (FIA) hosted its hybrid sweetener symposium at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney.

During the event, we heard keynotes from globally recognised experts in the fields of nutrition epidemiology, toxicologic pathology, food additive safety and regulatory risk assessment for sweeteners.

Guest speakers included:

• Christel Leehmuis, General Manager Science and Risk Assessment at Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ)
• Andrew Therkelsen, Managing Director at The Lab
• Dr John Sievenpiper, Clinician Scientist and Professor at the University of Toronto
• Dr Susan Elmore, Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist and Principal at Elmore Pathology
