Carbonated Soft Drinks

Carbonated soft drinks (CSDs) are a combination of carbonated water and flavouring, sweetened by sugar or a non-sugar sweeteners. The production of carbonated soft drinks contributes approximately $4 billion per annum.

Carbonated soft drinks, or CSDs, can be sweetened by sugar or a range of non-nutritive sweeteners. Sucrose is widely used and comes from the sugar cane plant.

CSDs can be flavoured using natural flavours derived from fruits, vegetables, nuts, bark, leaves, herbs, spices or oils.

Artificial flavourings offer consumers creative flavour combinations while offering manufacturers a longer shelf life and stable cost inputs. Preservatives may be added to extend the life of the product.

Caffeine may be found in some soft drinks. Caffeine has been part of cola drinks since their introduction, although caffeine-free options are widely available. The amount of caffeine in a cola drink is less than one third of the amount found in an equal volume of coffee.

Frozen Drinks

Frozen drinks are frozen versions of many popular carbonated drinks. They are available from a variety of outlets, including convenience stores, restaurants and cafes.
