Australian Beverages Council Rejects Misleading Claims About Bottled Water Quality and Labelling
The Australian Beverages Council, the peak industry body representing Australia’s non-alcoholic beverage sector, today firmly rejects recent claims questioning the safety, quality, and labelling of popular bottled water brands in Australia.
All bottled water sold in Australia is subject to strict safety, quality, and labelling regulations under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. Only water sourced from underground springs can legally be marketed as spring water, ensuring clear and accurate product labelling for consumers.
Our members operate under rigorous standards to ensure Australian consumers receive safe, high-quality bottled water products. In addition to meeting mandatory government regulations, many companies are accredited under the Australasian Bottled Water Institute’s Model Code, which sets an even higher benchmark for safety, quality, and sustainability within the industry.
The Australian Beverages Council encourages consumers to seek information from trusted sources and rely on regulated labelling when making choices about bottled water products.
