Energy Drinks Commitments

All members of the Australian Beverages Council (ABCL) involved in the manufacture or distribution of energy drinks have voluntarily agreed to the following commitments:

  • not direct any marketing and advertising activities at children
  • not sell energy drinks in primary or secondary schools
  • not promote excessive consumption
  • not manufacture or sell energy shots
  • not market energy drinks as only providing hydration
  • not use labelling to promote the mixing of energy drinks with alcoholic beverages
  • provide consumers with up-to-date information about energy drinks on the ABCL website

These commitments are in addition to ABCL members’ compliance with the marketing and advertising Codes set out by the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA), as well as the requirements of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.
