Read MoreVictoria has announced that it intends to launch their Container Deposit Scheme in 2023, with first supplier registration from March.
The introduction of a Container Deposit Scheme [CDS] is part of the Government’s $300 million Recycling Victoria program introducing a new approach to reduce, reuse and recycle the state’s waste.
In late 2020 the Victorian Government released a public consultation paper seeking feedback on scheme design and implementation. The ABCL responded on behalf of the industry.
On 14 April 2021 the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio announced a split responsibility model for the Victorian CDS.
To support the government in the development of a CDS, the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning [DELWP] created an Advisory Group on which the ABCL has a seat and represents the interests of the non-alcoholic beverages industry.
In mid-December 2021, the Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Bill received Royal Assent, establishing Victoria’s CDS scheme into legislation. Victoria has now completed its Expression of Interest Phase for the Scheme Coordinator and is currently conducting the tender process.
