Dental Health

Good dental hygiene is important for all Australians. Brushing regularly, using fluoride toothpaste and flossing teeth are all part of good dental hygiene.

Using fluoride, regular twice daily brushing, reducing the intake of sticky foods between meals, eating a balanced diet and regularly visiting your dentist all play important roles in good dental health.

The amount of sugar in a particular food is not the only factor in the development of dental caries. As non-alcoholic drinks remain in the mouth for a relatively short time, beverages containing sugar, whether added or naturally occurring, do not directly cause dental caries. Provided that good dental hygiene practices are maintained, sugar-sweetened drinks can be enjoyed on occasion as part of a balanced diet.
